\nYes. The U.S. Federal Reserve<\/a> has classified Stern Bank as a U.S. state bank and has provided it with an ABA routing number.<\/p>\n

Is Puerto Rico part of the United States?
\n<\/strong>Yes. Puerto Rico is an\u00a0unincorporated territory<\/a> of the United States and has full access to the U.S. banking system \u2013 just like any U.S. state.<\/p>\n

How are Stern Bank and Stern International Bank LLC<\/em> related?<\/strong>
\n\u201cStern Bank\u201d is the trading name for Stern International Bank LLC<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Which banks are eligible for an ABA routing number?<\/strong>
\nAn ABA routing number will only be issued to a federal or state-chartered financial institution eligible to maintain an account with the U.S. Federal Reserve.<\/p>\n

Are you FDIC insured or insured in any other respect?
\n<\/span><\/strong>No.<\/span><\/p>\n

Application Process<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Do clients need to make in-person visits to open accounts?<\/strong>
\nIn most cases, accounts can be opened without requiring that the client visit our offices in Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n

Can I visit the bank personally?<\/strong>
\nYes, the bank accepts appointments in Puerto Rico. In some cases,\u00a0it\u2019s possible to meet with our authorized representatives in other countries.<\/p>\n

My application was rejected \u2013 May I receive explanations for the rejection?
\n<\/strong>We apologize, but under U.S. regulations and legal guidelines, we cannot share with you the reason for the rejection nor provide you with further information about our risk & compliance committee\u2019s decision. Our decision is final.<\/p>\n

What is the timeline for setting up my account?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Once all documents have been provided, the Onboarding Department usually reviews the application within three business days. (All corporate and identification documents, which may cause a delay to your application if you do not have these readily available, are required.)<\/p>\n

Do documents need to be notarized or apostilled?
\n<\/strong>Official translations must be notarized. \u00a0Stern can accept documents in English and Spanish without notarized translations. Documents in other language will usually require official notarized translations.\u00a0 Stern Bank usually does not require apostilled documents.<\/p>\n

Does Stern Bank accept cryptocurrency or open accounts for firms that transact in cryptocurrency?<\/strong>
\nNo, as it is prohibited by the Bank\u2019s Compliance Policies.<\/p>\n

Does Stern Bank have any country restrictions?
\n<\/strong>As a U.S. bank, Stern Bank is subject to restrictions put in place by the U.S. Department of Treasury, as well as certain countries restricted by the Bank\u2019s Compliance Policies.<\/p>\n

Are there any limits on how much money I can transfer?<\/strong>
\nLimits are set on\u00a0an individual client basis.<\/p>\n

What type of currencies can I hold?<\/strong>
\nStern Bank opens accounts in USD, EUR, and GBP.\u00a0 <\/span>Stern Bank can also provide unique IBANs for EUR.<\/p>\n

How does Stern Bank make payments?<\/strong>
\nStern Bank makes payments via SWIFT<\/a>, Fedwire, and SEPA.<\/p>\n

Does Stern Bank provide debit or credit cards?<\/strong>
\nStern Bank will introduce debit cards this year (2019).<\/p>\n

Does Stern Bank provide personal accounts?<\/strong>
\n<\/span>Stern Bank will introduce personal accounts this year (2019).<\/p>\n

Do you provide a savings account?
\n<\/strong><\/span>No, but Stern Bank can offer time deposits. Please contact your Customer Service Representative for further information.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do I have access to an online account?
